It being the lunar new year of the rabbit around this time, I wanted to include a nod to it by putting bunny masks on my action figures, which I then photographed in front of my extremely cool Tetris light (you can stack the tetrominoes in different ways!) Super pleased with how this one came out. I think it would have been better if I’d had one big plastic sheet to put underneath, but you can’t have everything.
People have been very complimentary about this one! For double theming, the background is coloured entirely out of lipstick. Yes, I own all those colours of lipstick. 😉
I started off with the idea of making healing items recognisable from various computer games (I was particularly thinking of the herbs and ‘first aid spray’ from Resident Evil), but ended up with more generic fantasy stuff. There are still a couple of nods here, though!
For this theme I started by thinking about the Big Bang (arguable beginning of everything). Then I thought about what it might have been like before; everything was condensed… maybe like a seed? Then I thought about what seeds on a universe tree might look like, and here they are. Detail below, which shows the sparkle better.

This took so long to do it was started for Child’s Play, continued through MMMF (Medusa Makes Men Frightened) and finally finished for Shock. My snakes are SO COOL.

On this day, I learned that rat kings are a real thing that really happens sometimes. Not only that, but squirrel kings have also been documented. I did not want my pretend rats to pretend suffer, so I made them separatable. 🙂

For the theme Bubbles, I made actual soap bubbles (with a bit of sugar for longevity) and photographed them against a reflective background with coloured lighting.
